The International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA) and Collectif Urgence Toxida (CUT) approach UN human rights monitors to call on the Mauritian Government to rescind its plans to re-introduce the death penalty less than one week out from national elections in the country.
The related report of HRI and CUT, which analyses the country’s human rights record in relation to drug control, outlines the need to implement scaled up harm reduction services in Mauritius and was submitted to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, an independent international human rights monitoring body. It coincides with the forthcoming meeting between the Government and the Committee in May 2010.
