Pedro Ivo Oliveira is the Public Health Intern at Harm Reduction International (HRI). He is a gender, sexuality, and health specialist, researcher, and advocate with expertise at the intersections of LGBTQ+ rights, HIV and AIDS, drug policy, and social inclusion.
Prior to joining HRI, Pedro worked with intergovernmental organizations such as the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the Organization of American States (OAS), as well as with international NGOs including the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA World), Outright International, and Open for Business.
His current research focuses on integrated harm reduction and HIV- and STI-related care for gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) engaged in chemsex. Passionate about key population-led organizing, he also provides pro bono support to the Sex Workers’ Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN).
Pedro is completing an MA in International Development, specializing in Gender, Race, and Diversity at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, with mobility to the MSc in Global Health at the University of Geneva. He holds a BA in International Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
